America's Smallest State Capitol Located just minutes from
Thatcher Brook Bed and Breakfast Inn, Montpelier, Vermont is the smallest
State Capitol in the Country. A statue of Ethan
Allen greets visitors at the front of the gold-domed
capitol building. An impressive portico, designed
in 1836us of Greek Revival style.
Modeled after the temple of Theseus in Athens, it's made of Vermont granite.
Visitors can wander throughout the building on a self-guided
tour, Monday through Friday from 7:45am to 4:15pm;
in summer, it's also open Saturday from 11am to 3pm. Guided tours are
available from June through
late October during these times.

areas and a 52 ft. observation tower.

The world's largest granite quarry offers guided as well as
self-guided tours. Wooden derricks still stand in the inactive mining
area, once used to lift the huge blocks of granite.
